Allambi Care - Paediatrician

Allambi Care are seeking to appoint a suitably experienced practitioner to the position of Paediatrician to provide specialist medical services to the Allambi Care Clinical Department. This role provides clinical services across the age group 0-18 years, but could possibly include a small number of clients in the 18-25 year age range, negotiated on a case by case basis. This position is responsible to the Clinical Director.

The Allambi Care Clinical Department is a multidisciplinary team comprising members from the disciplines of psychology, behaviour analysis, speech therapy, social work, occupational therapy, child psychiatry and nursing. The addition of paediatrics to our team will provide an even more comprehensive wealth of knowledge to support our patients. We follow best practice based on a child, and family centred care philosophy.

At Allambi Care we are committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce. We embrace diverse life experiences and the perspectives of our people, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, religion, cultural background, disability, or sexual orientation. At Allambi Care we are committed to providing positive employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with a disability, and people with diverse backgrounds. These matters are highly valued, for they help to provide better outcomes for the children and young people in our care.

About the Role

The Allambi Care Clinical Department are proud to provide a (predominantly) internal service to children and adolescents living in out-of-home care (OOHC) – which is Allambi Care’s major area of work. As such it can be assumed that nearly all of our young people have experienced trauma, and a large proportion of them have experienced severe complex trauma. Thus, you would need to be comfortable working with a cohort who are frequently of low socioeconomic background, with a preponderance of behavioural disorders, together with high rates of FASD, ADHD, and the common list of DSM diagnoses that OOHC children are given.

Allambi Care Clinical Department places a high priority and emphasis on working relationally and behaviourally, thus avoiding or reducing dependence on medications wherever possible. Whilst this is constantly balanced against sometimes more popular treatment approaches that depend on medication-heavy models, it will never be in contradiction of evidence-based best practice.

Providing high-quality care to children, carers, families, and staff accessing the Allambi Care Clinical Department; you will work closely with our psychiatrists and psychologists, as well as all other members of the team. It is also assumed that in time you would be increasingly able to support the operations staff involved with the day-to-day care of the children and adolescents cared for by the Allambi Care organisation.
