Family Preservation Team Leader
Wyong, NSW

Allambi Care are currently recruiting for the position of Family Preservation Team Leader, within the Outreach Program based in Wyong.

Position Objective

Team Leaders will oversee the delivery of the Family Preservation program, which aims to keep children and young people safe at home with their families, preventing removal, placement in OOHC and future contact with the child protection system. The objective of the role is to lead and manage a team of practitioners and their work improving the outcomes and wellbeing for families at risk.

 

 

Position Summary

 

Primary duties and responsibilities;

Program Operations

  • Practice and lead their team under the Family Preservation program specifications and Families Together framework, as stipulated contractually by DCJ.
  • Manage and lead a team comprised of three practitioners and one family support worker.
  • Manage Family Preservation referrals, referral communication and program vacancy through Child Story Partner Community for allocated LGA (refer to operations manual for exact requirements). At times assistance will be required to manage other LGA referrals. Team Leaders will manage community referrals outside of ChildStory and ensure the target is adhered to.
  • Ensure program numbers are adhered to at all times, and deviances from this are communicated to both Program Manager and DCJ as required.
  • Ensure all data requirements are met through Infoshare data system. Data is collected ongoingly by Team Leaders, and collected by DCJ quarterly.
  • Manage the brokerage for allocated LGA stringently through budget management system.
  • Ensure the Family Preservation support timeframe of 12 months is adhered to and that changes to program length are discussed with Program Manager and appropriate DCJ staff.
  • Where appropriate participate in operational decisions and process development. Team Leaders may be required to oversee new projects and processes within the program.
  • Establish and foster strong relationships with the Commissioning and Planning Officers, Community Service Centres within your LGA, and the local community.
  • Work flexibly where required to meet the needs of families engaged in the program. Team leaders and Practitioners will need to be available Monday to Friday between 6am and 8pm where required. Discussion and planning will be done to ensure both staff and clients have their needs met.

 

 

Leading the team

  • Ensure all team members are being adequately and actively trained across all required areas; Allambi Cares Policies and Procedures, Child Protection systems and reporting, all program assessment tools, evidence based and therapeutic tools.
  • Ensure all core assessments are reviewed and completed within the program timelines. Team leaders will be responsible to review assessments for quality and accuracy. Core assessments – North Carolina Family Assessment Tool, Growth and Empowerment Scale (GEM), Parenting Empowerment and Efficacy Measure (PEEM), Case Plans, Practice Reflections.
  • Attend all initial home visits, and subsequent home visits where required. Team Leaders are expected to have a comprehensive understanding of their 21 families, in order to oversee practice direction and support.
  • Ensure that safety and risk concerns that arise are communicated and reported as required through the MRG and Child Protection Helpline, and allocated DCJ staff in applicable.
  • Manage safety risk and crisis in a skilled, calm and professional manner, guiding any involved staff.
  • Ensure practitioners and family support workers have the support and skills to engage families and provide ongoing therapeutic and professional supports.
  • Remain up to date with services and supports, engaging regularly in interagency opportunities.
  • Team Leaders will engage practitioners and family support workers in formal in person supervision at a minimum of every 2 months, as per Allambi Cares policies. Additionally, team leaders will provide more regular supports each week, both individually and in a team setting.
  • Team Leaders are required to have a comprehensive understanding of each of their 21 families. Team leaders will be required to attend home visits and meetings where appropriate and needed.
  • AIMS and PowerBI to be kept up to date, in order to oversee numbers, record keeping and documentation and overall program trends.
  • Regular and detailed review of client documentation to be completed to ensure quality and accuracy.

 

 

Selection Criteria (Please address all points in your application)

 

  • Bachelor Degree in a related discipline or equivalent experience, with a strong understanding of child, youth and family services and trauma-informed practice.
  • Over five years’ experience working with children, young people and families with complex needs, trauma and challenging behaviours, including risk assessment, crisis intervention and family support.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management experience, including staff supervision, performance management, professional development, team coordination and maintaining positive team culture and service outcomes.
  • Minimum Caseworker level experience (or equivalent), with demonstrated skills in case management, stakeholder engagement, report writing and collaborative service delivery.

Organisational Requirements

  • Sound knowledge of the Needs Based Framework and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) concepts and strategies, with the ability to apply therapeutic approaches in practice.
  • Proficient in AIMS, PowerBI, and the Microsoft Suite.
